In September 2022, during the Mid-Autumn holidays, the East Coast National Scenic Area Administration of Tourism Bureau, MOTC (hereinafter referred to as ECNSAA), organized the 2022 East Coast Land Arts Festival - Moonlit Sea Concerts. Blessed by the Moon God and accompanied by a gentle breeze, the concerts were successfully held as scheduled, attracting nearly 7,000 visitors to Duli. This event is renowned as one of Taiwan’s most culturally rich and popular music festivals.
The performances featured several innovative elements that had never been attempted before. Notably, the Puppet & Its Double Theater from Yilan presented a captivating drama performance reminiscent of the Taiwanese version of ‘The Lion King. ’ Two large custom-made puppets, Goddess Dungi and God Malataw, along with ECNSAA's ‘Elders of Katumayan’ puppets, delighted both children and adults as they toured the venue, bringing surprises and joy. Additionally, 300ss showcased mystic and authentic gothic rock, while Aurorae Solarium's soft yet energetic healing post-rock music provided a beautiful contrast between dark and bright styles. Ufa’s Amis-style electronic music, complete with unique sound and light effects, created an entirely different soundscape at the junction of mountains and sea in Duli. The final performance, led by Suming and featuring tribal youths and children, concluded with a heartwarming group singing and dancing, leaving attendees eagerly anticipating the 2023 Moonlit Sea Concert.
All performers and market stalls at the 2022 Moonlit Sea Concerts gave their best. Some of them created new choreography or songs for the event, showcasing a variety of performance styles and highlighting the infinite possibilities of the Moonlit Sea stage. At the market, whether it’s handcrafted goods or gourmet food, the essence of Moonlight Sea is incorporated into the design. Everything visitors experienced—what they saw with their eyes, what they tasted in their mouths, and what they wore—was connected to Moonlight Sea. The perfect atmosphere of the concerts was co-created by all participating parties.
Although the Moonlit Sea concerts have concluded, the six pieces of artwork from the East Coast Land Arts Festival still stand along the East Coast as popular social media photo spots. Workshops and DIY activities continue to be offered by arts and crafts studios. From September 21 to 27, "the ‘Drop-in Our Life’ series of events has been launched, featuring estuary concerts, markets, and various local experiences. These aim to offer visitors ‘all kinds of possibilities of life.’ Additionally, guided tours of the ‘Gemstone under the Moonlight’ light installations by Factory J & Workshop W are open for reservations. The East Coast Land Arts Festival provides a taste of the charming East Coast art tourism. All are welcome to explore the intellectual, sensual, delicious, and fun aspects of the East Coast.
