Details
The East Coast of Taiwan, with its natural landscape and rich culture, is like God’s hidden treasure box compared to the more modernized cities on the west coast. From the sunrise over the emerald sea under the blue sky to the golden full moon rising, the alternating luminaries sprinkle sparkling diamonds on the ripples at night to celebrate the moon goddess and sing praises to the ocean. The East Coast Land Arts Festival was developed and thrived on such a foundation.
The East Coast Land Arts Festival, organized by the East Coast Scenic Area Headquarters of the Tourism Bureau of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications, will be celebrating its tenth anniversary under the curatorial theme of “Becoming the Moving Boundary” to express the symbiosis and mobility of the island’s ecological and cultural diversity, allowing travelers to discover their boundaries on the East Coast. Over the past decade, the exhibition has attracted many artists from the island and abroad. They continued to tell the stories of this island in moving and still forms through art with a lively vibrant atmosphere.
Since its inception in 2015, the festival has combined the concepts of sustainability, eco-friendliness, and localization, to collaborate with artists-in-residence and facilitate other main events including Moonlit Sea Concert, Artisan Market, and Cultural Platform. The highlight of the festival, “Moonlit Sea Concert” is known for its diverse performances and relaxing and romantic ambiance. The unique and beautiful moonlit backdrop of the East Coast transformed Duli Park into a professional outdoor stage that coexisted with nature, as the full moon shone over the Pacific Ocean paving a moonlit passage.
This year, eight Moonlit Sea Concerts will be held on June 21-22, July 21-22, August 20-21, and September 19-20. Artists and audiences from around the island and abroad are invited to share arts and music in the moving boundary on the East Coast. As the festival celebrates its tenth anniversary, the headquarters at the visitor center in Duli Park will also host a series of events to showcase the unique attitude of the local life on the East Coast and invite everyone to join this exciting and wondrous journey.
For public transportation, there are flights from Taipei Songshan Airport or Taoyuan Airport to Taitung Airport. Railroad to Taitung Train Station is also available. The event organizer provides roundtrip shuttles to the Moonlight Sea Concert venue during the showtime (by reservation). Visitors should reserve the shuttle service in advance.
