East Coast National Scenic Area

Yuchang (Yuli-Changbin) Highway is Highway No. 30. It is one of the country's major transportation routes with a total length of 16.22 km and a width of 9 meters. It is the only highway that cuts through the coastal mountain range by tunnel (2.66 km long). Yuchang Highway significantly shortens the original 2 hours 90 minute drive of the old route. Since the highway opened, visitors can cross the coastal range, tourists can enjoy both the East Rift Valley and the East Coast.

The Yuchang Highway, which links Yuli in Hualien and Changbin in Taitung, has opened a new page for tourism on the Eat Coast. The two places, the East Rift Vally and the Pacific Coast in Taidong seem to closer than ever. However the differences bewteen them are huge. Therefore the saying: ""Rain on the east side of the mountains and sunshine on the west side of the mountains. It's such a poetic description."
