Jiamuzi Bay Recreation Area, Zhuqiao Recreation Area, Junjie Recreation Area are three adjacent mini attractions located at the southern end of Donghe Township on Provincial Highway 11. As the three spots are all close to the ocean and with available land along the seaside, East Coast National Scenic Headquarters set up three rest areas with signage, pavilions, tables and chairs, trails, parking spaces, and trash cans, providing visitors and locals with a convenient and safe space to gaze at the sea, take photos, or rest at any time.
Driving southbound, you will find Jiamuzi Bay to be an inward-bending bay at the southern end of Donghe Township. The water is calm inside the bay, with a few giant rocks scattered inside and outside of the bay. With the coconut trees swaying in the wind, it is the perfect spot for enjoying the beautiful seaside scenery. The local Amis people call Jiamuzi Bay "kamod," which means grabbing and obtaining. This place is not only where the local tribe holds their annual ocean festival, but also where "bagerlan" (post-event celebration) is held after weddings and funerals. With the calm and clear water in the bay, vibrant coral reefs and diverse ecology can be found on the north side of the bay. The Amis people believe that it is an important sea left by their ancestors.
Zhu Bridge (Zhuqiao) was originally a small bridge connecting the small river valleys on the north and south ends. It is less than one kilometer away from Jiamuzi Bay and adjacent to Xinlan Fishing Port. You will easily miss it if you drive past too fast. Parking is easy here. There is an art installation of carved steel in the shape of an urn next to the parking lot. A large pavilion is set up to provide shade and shelter for visitors. Zhuqiao Recreation Area has the widest land and the largest number of parking lots among the three recreation areas. At Zhuqiao Recreation Area, you will find the vibrant coconut trees in different poses and the pearl-like reefs scattered along the shore. In the dazzling sunshine, the whole area gives a tropical vibe. It is suitable for a family picnic to spend some quality time immersed in nature.
Continuing southbound for less than one kilometer, you will find Junjie. During the Japanese colonial rule period, it was the border between Xingang County and Taitung County. Similar to Jiamuzi Bay Recreation Area, the parking space is right off Provincial Highway 11. You can follow along the cement walkway to the two pavilions overlooking the sea. Looking towards the north from here, you can see the signature red lighthouse of Xinlan Fishing Port, as well as the protruding coastal landform in the north. Looking out to the sea on a clear day, you can see Green Island clearly. Sitting in the pavilion with the sea breeze blowing in your face, the summer heat is all gone!
