〔DAY 1〕

Hualien Visitor Center
Hualien Visitor Center is the northmost service point in this scenic area. Located at the 8-km marker of the southbound Provincial Highway 11 in Shoufeng Township, Hualien County, there’s an excellent panorama view of the Pacific Ocean. In the visitor center you will find displays offering information on the natural and cultural resources in the area and tourist attractions along the coastline and a multimedia briefing room of a capacity of 81 people. Visitors are encouraged to acquire information here before starting their tour.

Clime up to the viewing platform and look towards the south, you will find the Jiqi Bay, Guihou Headland, and Xinshe Cliff, forming a layered and continuous landscape—a unique geological wonder.
Coin-operated telescopes can be found on the platform, offering a clearer view for the visitors. At sunset, you can see the returning fishing boats. Looking towards the south from the viewing platform, you will have a clear view of the top of Dashibi Hill on the south side of Jiqi Bay.

Shitiping Recreational Area
Shitiping is located at the south end of Shiti Bay, Shoufeng Township, Hualien County. The whole area is a large coastal terrace with a high degree of marine erosion. The landscape includes marine platforms, raised coral reefs, sea trenches, and sea cliffs. The potholes, specifically, are one of Taiwan's top sites.
The Shitiping coast is rich in coral reefs and tropical fish. Various seaweed, fish, shrimps, shellfish, and other marine life thrive in the intertidal zones and tide pools from the potholes. As a result, Shitiping is a great place for observing intertidal ecology as well as diving and seashore fishing.
Visitors can walk along the circular trail and make close-up observations, or climb up the 17-m high cuesta to enjoy the geological view of Shitiping alongside the magnificent Pacific Ocean.

Xibulan Visitor Center (Xin Taipingyang Yi Hao Dian, or New Pacific Number One Store)
The limestone bed of Xiuguluan River, after years of washing and eroding of the running river, forms various shapes of rock and is white—like jade—in color. The name “Xiugu goggling jade” is therefore given. The design of the Xibulan Visitor Center is based on this image, using pure-white, rock-texture paint on the exterior wall and aluminum grid sunshade to replace the traditional slanted roof—a eye-catching design sure to get visitors’ attention.

The Tropic of Cancer Landmark
The Tropic of Cancer landmark is at 23.5 degrees north of the Equator, the most northerly circle of latitude on Earth at which the Sun can be directly overhead, also dividing the subtropics and tropics. The Jingpu Tropic of Cancer landmark is located at the 70.5-km marker of Provincial Highway 11. Every year on the summer solstice, the sun rises and falls along the white tower. A slit can be found in the landmark tower that facilitates the observation of this phenomenon. At noon on the summer solstice, sunlight goes directly into the slit. Visitors next to the tower can experience the unique phenomenon of becoming shadow-less under the sun.

Sanxiantai
Sanxiantai island is comprised of Duluan Mountain agglomerate rock. It was originally a headland before gradual sea erosion cut off the neck of the headland, turning it into an offshore island. In the past, visitors could only reach the island by crossing the water during low tide. In 1987, the eight-arch bridge was completed and crossing over to the island was made possible. The bridge was designed in the shape of waves, like a dragon crouching over the sea, connecting Sanxiantai with Taiwan Island. It has become a famous landmark on the East Coast.
There is a walking trail that goes around Sanxiantai, which takes about 2 hours to complete at a relaxed pace. Coral reefs surround the island. The strong weathering and erosion created natural and geological wonders such as sea trenches, sea caves, sea columns, and sea walls, making the visit to the island full of discoveries and surprises.

This location benefits from the Kuroshio, a warm Pacific current cultivating a diverse range of marine species, including dolphins and whales. In an effort to raise awareness of Chenggong’s marine resources and fishing industry, the East Coast National Scenic Area Administration launched this marine environmental education facility for the general public as part of the Chenggong Yacht Marina. With the help of the Taiwan Cetacean Society, the Center offers free, guided tours as well as marine-themed trips and workshops to provide visitors with knowledge and insights of the unique fishing culture of Chenggong, as well as the marine ecosystem of Taitung County, making their whale-watching trips even more worthwhile.

The whole area is about 2 hectares in size, including an outdoor performance plaza and outdoor seating that can accommodate 2,000 people. It is a great place to experience the Amis traditional culture.
The main building of the Center is comprised of ceremonial houses and residential houses, a replica of Shaman’s houses of Taibalang Tribe of Hualien. Water Running Upward
As soon as you arrive here, you will hear tourists exclaiming in excitement for this geographical wonder - Water Running Upward.
As an old saying goes, "People go high, water flows low." This irrigation ditch about only 1.8 km away from Doulan, interestingly, violates the basic rule of gravity and runs slowly uphill along the ditch. Next to the ditch stands a block inscribed with the word "Wonder."
The road next to the ditch goes downhill while the ditch itself is in fact slightly uphill. As a result, when visitors stand at a low point and look at the ditch in continuation with the road, it looks as if water is running upward. A magical geological site!
無障礙遊程-2日遊◆Suggested time: 9:00-17:00
◆Accessible facilities: accessible toilets (2), accessible parking lots (2), accessible ocean view platform (1).

Jialulan
At Jialulan, there is a large grass field, a pagoda and tourist center of distinct design, and a viewing platform where you can look out to Doulan Bay, Doulan Mountain, and Fugang Geopark (Xiaoyeliu). It not only offers a great place for a break during your East Coast trip, it is also a wonderful photo spot. Tourists can relax in the sound of waves, the sea breeze, and the warm sunlight in Jialulan.
Besides the natural beauty, there is various driftwood art and carved stone art on display in the park. You might notice that driftwood art was used to decorate the pagoda.
Every year during summer and fall, a group of artists gather here and present their art in the Jialulan handcraft market. Their original artwork is focused on utilizing natural materials. Along with various activities such as outdoor movie screening and live music performance of local bands, visitors can stroll around, shop at the market, and experience the natural, simple, creative, and hospitable East Coast. 無障礙遊程-2日遊◆Suggested time: 11:30-13:20
◆Accessible facilities: accessible toilets (1), accessible parking lots (2), accessible ocean view platform (1).

Fugang Geopark (Xiaoyeliu)
Fugang Geopark (Xiaoyeliu) is located north of Fugang Fishing Port. It is the southmost tourist attraction on the East Coast. Due to the interlayer deposition of thick-bedded sandstone and thin-bedded mudstone, changes in geological structure, and the erosion and scouring of sea waves, odd-shaped rocks such as cuesta, honeycomb rocks, turtle rocks, tofu rocks, and mushroom rocks are formed.
The huge, twisted coral reefs, along with the fig trees growing on the rocks, form a unique sight. On a clear day, from Fugang Geopark (Xiaoyeliu) you can see clearly Lüdao about 32 kilometers towards the east as well as ferries departing from Fugang Fishing Port for Lüdao and Lanyu.
We recommend you to take a walk from the Visitor Center to Fugang Geopark (Xiaoyeliu) along the seaside walking trail. Observe coastal plants such as Silvery Messerschmidia and Sea Hibiscus, stroll along the coconut tree walk, feel the serenity of nature, and listen to the Concerto of the sounds of birds and waves.無障礙遊程-2日遊
